Early Hues of a New Day (a kyrielle)

At half past five, through the window,
ghostly silhouette of willow
casts, shadow-black on dusty grey, 
the early hues of a new day.

A ragged scrap of sky unfolds
in tones of purple blue and gold
like marbled paper tossed away,
the early hues of a new day.

The liquid taciturnity
is rippled by birds’ melody
releasing as the shadows fray
the early hues of a new day.

Yielding to the eye of heaven
darkness lifts by half past seven
and opaque blue replaces grey:
the early hues of a new day.

  8. Oh, how stunning and breathtaking, Kim! The final stanza is so mesmerizing, but my favorite was the first:

    “At half past five, through the window,
    ghostly silhouette of willow
    casts, shadow-black on dusty grey,
    the early hues of a new day.”

    This is a poem that shook my senses with the imagery you pen, and this is just so beautifully captivating. As well with “Half past five”, it makes me think of T.S. Eliot. 🙂 An excellent poem. I love it.

  11. There’s something magical about this time of day isn’t there? (About now as I’m writing this!) You’ve captured that magic and hopefulness here, and the repetition of ‘the early hues of a new day’ is so effective. Great photo too!

    1. Thank you, Ingrid. The mediation the doctor prescribed recently has improved my sleep but it means I’ve been waking up later than I normally do, so I’ve missed the magical time of day for a week. Luckily, I won’t be on it for long.
