My response to dVerse Poets Pub 5 Year celebration Part 3 – Laurie Kolp & A Summer Continuance
Thank you Walter and Grace for the interview with Laurie; I’ve bookmarked her website and will be taking a look later.
We have the following quote from which to draw inspiration: “I am cold, even though the heat of early summer is adequate. I am cold because I cannot find my heart.” ~Sebastian Barry from his novel A Long, Long Way.
On your back
early summer heat,
lonely track
chills your feet,
like the Tin Man in Kansas,
searching for your heart.
You’re so cold
you can see your breath,
feeling old,
close to death,
needing the warmth of a kiss,
longing for your heart.
Journey’s end,
a familiar place
and a friend’s
smiling face,
melted by her warm caress,
you have found your heart.

What I see as I read this was an old hobo, riding the rails, lying in the straw of a box car; cool poetics.

Yes, find your heart. This speaks to the soul! Thanks for responding to the quote!

I love the turn from cold to the warm caress, and finding one’s heart. I think we wrote in the same direction Kim. Cheers and thanks for celebrating with us.

I truly like how it started out cold and sad but turned in the end to the warmth and the finding of a heart. Excellent take on the prompt. Sort of like John Claire.

I miss John Clare – I can’t believe Penny Dreadful will never be back. And yet they still put on those awful reality shows.
