in an empty house
the tock of a ticking clock
reverberating
reminder of remaining
seconds, minutes, days and years

My response to Carpe Diem #1043 emptiness
Today we are starting with the spring section of “A Dictionary of Haiku” by Jane Reichhold and the prompt is emptiness, a very strong idea within Zen Buddhism that’s also part of haiku. Chèvrefeuille has shared haiku by Jane to inspire us:
nothing fills
the emptiness of the question
where are they?
the empty nest
my daughter’s house
after the wedding
© Jane Reichhold
wow! yes everything within our house/home reminds us of the things gone..

The moments seem eternal when a clock ticks. As a child, whenever I heard a ticking clock, I would have a feeling of peacefulness, and drowsiness.

I have them packed away now but I have lots of knick knacks that belong to my great grandma and grandma and when I put them out because they are so old they remind me of when I lived on the Dairy Farm with my grandparents and worked every summer long…in the dry TX heat…a time that most have forgotten. thanks for helping me to remember a simpler time. ❤ Kat

I can hear that clock–and the echoes in the empty house.
