In rock-ribbed pools
and sheen of shore,
grey and white reflections
meld into ice-blue cirrus skies.
Wind tumbles
in a cumulus of sighs,
ripples silhouettes
of crabs and shells,
busting bits of bone
and nimbus whales,
exploding into fins, teeth, tails
and sea clouds.

My poem for dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille, where we take any meaning of one word and transform it into 44 poetic words.
Today, I am the barkeeper, your humble host, and have asked you to write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the word cloud.
I have been inspired by two of my favourite singer songwriters, Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, and the image of one of a group of paintings by a friend of mine, Norfolk artist, printer and community librarian Maria Pavledis, who you can find on http://mariapavledis.com/
This is wonderful Kim… the cumulus of sighs works so well.. all those names of clouds is perfect for that image too

Lovely captured moments. So many of us go down to the sea when in reference to clouds. Sky watchers, like music, are universal entities. I like your title & your lines /busting bits of bone/and nimbus whales/. reminiscent of Whitman.

Beautiful, Kim, and love how water and sky become one through your lovely descriptions. I remember studying cloud formations in elementary school and cirrus were my favorite…those wispy strips of white against the blue sky. Thank you for hosting us today.

Yes, I’m certain it would. And in this age of speed and quantity, I’m certain that you could find someone and create one fabulous creation. 🙂

Maybe you can help me with my cloud dilemma–I am stuck on a metaphor–dancing clouds 🙂

Thank you! You could name the dance, e.g. Clouds do the cakewalk / the cha cha cha / perform the can can or you could have them pirouetting or forming arabesques. These are some ideas that came to mind. I hope you find a metaphor you like!
