In a blur of inner city
(macular) de-
generation,
corporate vampires suck
the blood of the nation,
toppling steeples
and spires,
dessicating beauty
with concrete make-overs,
car parks and high rises,
leaving only
outcrops of history,
occasional surprises
on a motorway flanked by fields,
canopied by enormous skies.

I like the way you wrote this and the play on “(macular) de-
generation” …………. and “leaving only outcrops of history”

The chasm of space in your poem, creates a hiatus amid the words… many thoughts arise. This is very cleverly done.

Like the the corporate vampire building you leave that chasm open… much like the world today.

The question is, will the corporate vampire win the election?

This is so damn good!
Will the corporate vampire win the election? I don’t know, but I do wonder who is the lesser of two evils…
Kind regards

On my first reading, I read “outcries of history” instead of “outcrops of history”, and wondered if it’s a mental Freudian Slip…
Like Bjorn, “I hope not.”

Is there a result yet? I’m too scared to look. Comments on Facebook have me worried… no scared.

We devour that which should be preserved. Today’s vision doesn’t see the future has deep roots in the past.
