creased up
at the foot of the bed,
hugging to itself
the scent of you,
a scent that it releases
and exudes
as I fold it
tenderly

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Poems in April – Poetry through the eyes of Carol Ann Duffy
A big welcome to Sanaa, who says she is really excited about her debut prompt in the Imaginary Garden. Today, we’re taking a look at poetry through the eyes of Carol Ann Duffy, first woman, first Scot and first openly LGBT person to be appointed Britain’s Poet Laureate.
Sanaa has shared one of my favourite poems – although I love Duffy’s work so much I’m hard pressed to choose ten let alone one favourite – which she says left her absolutely breathless, ‘Valentine’.
The object of today’s challenge is to write about love using a common everyday image. We can choose our own form or write in free verse.
Oooh I love this!❤️ Such a wistful and romantic image you have created here, Kim 😀 I love how you have associated the ‘creased up t-shirt’ and its scent to feelings of love and longing.. sigh.. Beautifully rendered. Thank you so much for participating.❤️
Lots of love,
Sanaa

There is something about the clothing worn by a loved one that appeases the senses and emotions.

Your poem explains why I sleep in my husband’s shirts. And why, when I was deployed, I had to send t-shirts home for my boy to stick inside his pillow. There is such power in scent, and the power is glorious when it comes to the scent of those we love.

A T-shirt! So true in many instances. One can be lulled by its scent (just by having it nearby!)
