This Little Piggy

A little girl holds on to a chair,
teetering in her mother’s shoes,
shiny leather stilettos,
her feet squashed down into the toes.
Granny smiles, forgets for a moment
the bunions on her aching feet,
the pain when walking down the street,
the raw skin and unbearable heat.
After bath time, with pyjamas on,
they play this little piggy:
her toes are free
to wriggle and breathe,
and the little girl
tickles her mercilessly.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads – Writing Shoes

Marian has reminded us that it is day 27 of NaPoWriMo and we are almost there! She wants us to race to the finish by writing about shoes! She says that, when thinking about music to accompany her fun photo, she wasn’t able to choose between three quintessential songs by iconic artists. So she shared all three: Paul Simon with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Elvis Costello, and too-soon-gone Townes Van Zandt.

  2. Liked reading this, Kim. Little girls are made of sugar and spice. They play in Grandma’s shoes, in Grandma’s house. Spend the night, perhaps. Games galore.
Do you remember doing things with your grandmother? Mine was special but I can’t remember playing this little pig.

    1. I lead Bounce and Rhyme groups for parents, grandparents, babies and toddlers at two of the local libraries and ‘This Little Piggy’ is a favourite. I haven’t tried pizza instead of roast beef yet – I might do that next week!
