Waves

“These waves are claws,
the boat is caught in them,
you can feel it.”
Theo van Gogh’s reaction to Hokusai’s ‘Under the Wave off Kanagawa’

Hokusai’s vivid emotion echoes,
a great wave of Prussian blues,
each line curling,
echoing in its own splash,
all born of a daily exorcism
to limber up the brush:
painting Chinese lions to throw
out of the window,
to banish evil from the studio.

Another response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille #32 – Echo

De is our host this Monday and she’s inviting us to dance with shadows in a poem of exactly 44 words (not including title), and including one given word. Today, we are playing with the word echo.  We can make it a noun, a verb, or an adjective; get creative with it; make your whole poem one big echo, or slip it in there somewhere quietly. For inspiration, De has given us a few quotes and an Echo and the Bunnymen tune.

    1. Thank you, Xenia 🙂 xxx I’m off to bed in a short while – I need an early night after waking up at three and finally getting up at five because I couldn’t get back to sleep. I’ll have to read for at least an hour before I drop off! I’m reading a spooky book too.

  1. I won’t see that painting the same way after reading the quote. Your poem paints a picture of a passionate painter Kim with depth….I find myself wondering if it is based on biographical info or your imagination?
