Metallic red desk lamp spotlights a mug,
paints concentric halos in cold coffee
and reflects off the computer screen.
From the gutter above the window, rain drips;
fingers make the keyboard click in time
with dancing words that form into lines.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Bits of Inspiration ~ Mixed Media Art
On Thursday, Susie told us that she is intrigued by Mixed Media Art and explained that ‘mixed media’ is a term used to describe artworks composed from a combination of different media or materials. She said that, as poets and writers, we do the same thing, only our art form is words. We pull from memories, surroundings, music, people, etc. and shape them into poetry. She gave us an example in a poem by Duane Niatum.
The challenge, to which I have come a little late, was to write a poem from our immediate surroundings, a combination of what we see, hear, taste, feel, just pulling from the spot where we are writing.
OK. I’m sitting at my desk reading your poem and recognising that keyboard and those words forming, and that coffee going cold. I’m there with you…
But more than that – I LOVE your mouse mat!

You were there in spirit, Sarah! I love that mouse mat, too. I’ve had it for years and thought about getting another one but I would miss it too much! It would have to be a very special mouse mat…

I was writing along with you, Kim. I loved typing to the rhythm of the water dripping off the eaves. I too like the mouse pad. Your mouse is decorated very nicely, eyes and all. Back when I worked I had a MacDonald’s Happy Meal Toy mouse who stayed with the computer mouse. Hard telling what kind of tales they made up after hours.

Oh, I have sat like that often. My coffee gets cold, ice melts, etc. when I am lost to writing. Thanks so much for writing for the prompt!
