abandoned by waves
sunlight traces sparkling salt
driftwood comes alive

My response to Carpe Diem #1222 Beach
In a new episode of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, in a month in which we are exploring classical and non-classical kigo (seasonwords) for summer, today’s prompt is a modern kigo taken from Jane Reichhold’s A Dictionary of Haiku: ‘beach’.
darkening beach
the warmth of a person’s eyes
for the sinking sun
scattered in sand
embers of a saltwood fire
face to face with stars
shell beach
wind blowing through
a train whistle
a windless day
the beach colored
sea foam

A wonderful haiku Kim, I love the idea the driftwood comes alive ☺💜 xxx

Oh I love driftwood…you used love walking along the beach when I was a teen to deserted areas where boats were left to die, driftwood brought a life to the beach imagining the stories it could tell. We brought several pieces to our home growing up. Your haiku brought back fond memories, thank you for that!

Thank you Cheryl! I once found the most amazing piece of driftwood, brought it home, sanded it down, varnished it and had it for a couple of years until a visitor took a fancy to it and I haven’t seen it since!

A gorgeous haiku Kim. Your scene I can imagine so well … I can feel the wind, smell the salt and see the beauty of the driftwood.
