Alone

On the rim
of sunset, evening
hues are darkening,
musky with the fading
scent of undergrowth.
Summer will soon be a forgotten
dream, her insects a distant echo.
But at the heart of feelings
of rejection and loneliness
is the beat of all things.

  1. I liked the message in the last three lines. I am still trying to make sense out of it and may be adding to it without realizing. As I see it the well, or height, of feelings is where the heartbeat is, alone and apparently rejected, and it moves out from there to include others.
