as the molecular waviness
of sky and sea
busking elemental music;
as cool sand
beneath uncurling toes
and wind unfurling strands
of hair like wheeling gulls;
as a ladybird on its way home,
flying between blades of grass
before it lands
on my hand.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Monday Quadrille – free
De is keeping the dVerse bar this Monday and she has chosen ‘free’ as the word to fill our Quadrilles this week.
I love the image of that ladybird and the elemental music.. really think the simpler you make it, the less complex freedom is.

PS: Aren’t ladybugs at the beach just the BEST? Such a contrast of color, too.

I love them wherever they are! I haven’t seen many this year – I wonder where they all got to.

A beautiful quadrille Kim, I love how sky and sea are ‘busking elemental music’ and the ladybird stopping by on her way home with a message for you from beyond the stars :o) xxx

I liked the last one about being free as a ladybug.

Lovely images – ‘molecular waviness of the sky’ – and the final slowing neat couplet – as the ladybird lands.

I love the poem. Is that ladybug on a surfboard?

I’m not sure – I thought it was stalks of marram grass, but I could be wrong – a ladybird on a surfboard would be cool! 🙂

This flows so freely with metaphor. The opening phrase is superb (as are others): “(free) as the molecular waviness of sky and sea busking elemental music;”

LOVE the personification of sea and waves and sky as buskers! 🙂

I was singing Joni Mitchell’s wonderful song ‘For Free’ just before I wrote this – it’s found its way into the poem.
