We shut the front door
and rewind the day,
reining in squally autumn weather,
and watch the sky together
as storm smudged charcoal clouds
soak up rain from macerated mud
and leafy puddles. For a quiet twilight
moment, orange and scarlet sun
reigns again.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics: Rein ‘em in!
Lillian is hosting all the way from Provincetown on Cape Cod, where she has been blessed with a beautiful calm ocean and bright sunshine. She says she finds it very hard to believe that the same ocean is roiling near Florida.
With so many of us inundated by rain lately (India’s monsoons, hurricanes that ripped apart Texas, Florida, the Virgin Islands, Haiti, and Cuba) and the rest of us witnessing these devastating hurricanes, floods and tornadoes from afar through the news and social media, Lillian has chosen for today’s poetics the homophones rain, rein, or reign. We must use one, two, or, if we’re feeling particularly adventurous with our pens, all three of these words. The additional caveat (added direction) is that our posts must have a positive bent.
We are so blessed to have just the right amount of rain here too… love how the colors of the sunset came at last.

Ah….isn’t it nice to rewind? 🙂 Especially love these lines, Kim:
“storm smudged charcoal clouds
soak up rain from macerated mud
and leafy puddles”
You’ve really nailed fall with the leafy puddles 🙂

Lovely description of an autumn day. We, too, are enjoying autumn, but praying for the folks dealing with the hurricanes and forest fires.

Thank you, Bev. I was finding it difficult to imagine what is going on over the pond, but we’ve just received a bit of a backlash in our weather, so now I do! The trees in our garden are bending in the wind.

Even with a squally Autumn weather the Sun can still be expected to be ‘friendly’ and forgiving. Like this line of thought, Kim!
