Scrooged

I struggle with leftovers
and dregs of good cheer;
dinner repeats itself
and Christmas tinnitus
continues to ring in my ear.
Although I vaguely remember
many times that I’ve been here,
I know that I will make the leap
of faith into another year.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille: leap and linked to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform

Our first Quadrille word for 2018 is LEAP. Grace says we can use it as a word or verb, or we can add words to it, as in  leapyear or leapfrog. We just have to write a poem, or short story in 44 words with the word, LEAP.

  1. Ah, that post-Christmas slump. I quite like the pause, and the leftovers, and the quiet. I’m never sure about New Year, but I guess we have no choice. You capture the ambivalence so well. Happy 2018. It’s always a leap of faith!

  2. I love the rhymes in this. I still have leftovers as well…mainly Christmas cookies! I kept things light this year, mainly because of Brad being in hospital for so long and being so sick. Now we are both ready to leap into the New Year. I hope this year is full of joy and blessings to you Kim. Hugs.

  3. This definitely resonates with me. Leftovers are sparse now and that is fine with me….time to move forward….or leap….and hope for the best! Happy New Year to you, Kim. 🙂

  4. Love this – I too have leftovers 🙂 which isn’t too bad considering the fact that I love Buffalo wings and mashed potatoes!❤️ I ll join you in your leap of faith and hope that New Year is kind to us both. xx

  5. Since we moved in September, apart from the youngest who still lives with us, we’ve had festive visits from the children almost every weekend, as if they’re afraid we might be lonely out here. Christmas and New Year obviously had to be marked. The leftovers, well, that’s why we have a dog…

    1. My daughter and her husband visited on Boxing Day and she’s coming this weekend too. I don’t normally see her that often. Maybe it’s because she’s pregnant! 😊

  6. I really love this Kim — it is the leap of faith which grows greater in us year after year, having worn the year down to the same Christmas tinnitus. We used to rush into the next believing, now we’re hauled into it protesting, in desperate need of some of that old faith. Our leaps grow more rickety: Perhaps then they are more of the stuff of real faith. Happy New Year, and heeeeeeeeere we go!

  7. Happy New Year! This line hit me hard today: “dinner repeats itself.” My lunch today includes leftover ham from Christmas dinner celebrated on New Year’s Eve, as did the soup I made for dinner last night. My question: Is it gone yet?
