Cradled in a teacup, her infused dream
intertwines and rises with fragrant steam.
She drowsily waits for lips to press
porcelain and savour the sweetness
of flowers of jasmine, lotus and hibiscus,
unfurling below the liquid meniscus.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Poetics: Inspired by Art! – also linked to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform
Lillian’s back from her global travels and hosting today’s Poetics with a fantastic picture prompt! She tells us that, like me, she is always on the lookout for unique cards for birthdays and anniversaries, and note cards that are blank inside; she keeps a stash in a box in her desk – I have a special box for mine too!
She says that some months ago, while digging through her box of cards, she came across one with a surreal picture on the front, which gave her pause, drew her into the image and made her imagination wander.
The artist’s name is Catrin Welz-Stein and she has given permission for us to use four of her images for today’s Poetics prompt, which is to write a poem, any form and any length, using one of the four images. We MUST give credit to the artist somewhere in our posts, which I am doing here: Image by artist Catrin Welz-Stein, featured at

What a difficult choice that was, as I love all the images!
I love the rhymes you have used.. such a wonderful and sweet poem for that image… the flowers especially made me warm inside.

Thank you, Bjorn. I’m glad you liked the flowers. While we were in Venice, I discovered a tea blended by a Florence-based company called Via del Te and I love their camomile tea.

LOVE the idea of “cradled in a teacup” and then moving from that image to the “infused” dream….There’s a sense of delicacy here with the “porcelain” cup….and a sensuous aspect to this too. Beautiful response to the prompt, Kim!
And after reading your explanation to the prompt….we are spiritual twins, I think! 🙂

That’s an interesting perspective. She seems a little like Alice. Perhaps her tea was a tad too strong

Oh, I like the sensuality in this, and the tea, so mundane, and yet trailing all those romantic dreams. Also, total respect to someone who can use meniscus as a rhyme word and make it beautiful.

A short ode to a teacup. Very sensuous, waiting with anticipation. Nice rhyme, it all fit together. My reading was a nice experience, the verse made almost envious of that little teacup.

I too loved all the images but this little girl called out to me, i am happy to read your poem on her. “She drowsily waits for lips to press”, this was so dreamy, like a warming cup of tea, the aroma and flavour you invoke makes me feel like I am back in my cherished childhood home. and the last line was very creative, the below the surface activities we don’t see but makes the tea as it should be. i am in love with this poem, thank you.
