Morning’s frosty breath
halts the world,
for just a moment,
while we wonder
and listen to it whisper.
In the garden,
birds have left
hieroglyphic tracks,
secrets that slowly thaw
in the lukewarm stain
of the rising sun.

I often thought of quotes like that on frosty morning days but it was so cold I couldn’t take my hands out my gloves to write them down…but glad you did.

I really like this. It so expresses what it is like this time of year. Definitely enjoyed reading about the birds’ hieroglyphic tracks and how as the day goes on they melt away. Really evokes February to the max!

This is what my morning feels like today. The birds had began singing courting songs a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of spring, but winter had to have its say.

Yes, snow reveals tracks, that go unseen on most days.
