Hearthful of Flames

‘Someone has a great fire in his soul and nobody ever comes to warm themselves at it, and passers-by see nothing but a little smoke at the top of the chimney and then go on their way’ – Vincent van Gogh

A fire roared in his soul.
All his neighbours saw was smoke;
they gossiped and had a little joke
on his behalf,
not feeling the heat of his passion,
the flames in his hearth.
He was born to glitter
once his star had expired.

  1. Such a lovely tribute to Van Gogh!💖 I love the simplicity with which you describe the fire burning within one’s soul 💖 Beautifully rendered.

  2. I cannot begin to tell you how much I (love? admire? feel strongly about) Van Gogh. There was such passion in his soul that just demanded to be expressed and respected. I think experiences he went through with his failed relationships, his failed ministry with the miners had such an effect on him. You really lit a fire in me with this one.I want to sit down for a chat with him in whatever heaven/next life brings to us. Care to join us? We’ll wait. :0)
