A shy nightingale
waits until dark,
quietly chuckling
and snickering
at lovers in the park.
At moonrise,
he crescendos
into fluid song,
charming lovers
and the Milky Way
to shimmer more
than they did before.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics: BRAND NAME NOODLING!
Lill, our host this week, tells us that she went to the grocery store the other day, to pick up a few items and came away with her shopping and this prompt. She would like us to:
- choose ONE category from the three she has given us;
- include AT LEAST TWO of the brands listed in the chosen category, in the BODY of our poems;
- use the brand name’s words as words;
- try to use the two words in the same order as the brand does.
She warns us not to write about the items but to use the words to refer to something else – we should noodle with the words in the brand name!
She has also given us a hint that we may find the need to use a form of the word – as in ‘mounded’ or ‘mounding’ instead of ‘mounds’. However, we cannot use synonyms of the words.
I LOVE this! You’ve used the brand names as words so smoothly….one wouldn’t even guess it was for a prompt. That shy nightingale, singing in full throat by the moonlight! 🙂 Well done!

Nice how the song made the Milky Way shimmer more than it did before.

We do have nightingale close to where we live… they are rather loud for being shy… but I love the thought

Ah no, you can’t make a nightingale snicker! I’m listening to them right now 🙂 That word for me will be forever Muttley. Do you think you could have Muttley singing in that tree, please?

I have never heard a nightingale. They don’t live over here in Australia. For me they are birds of legend. Your poem really adds to the mystery. btw – could you please send me a link to your story of the bay tree. I can’t seem to find it. Thanks – Suzanne

It’s in the archives, but I created separate pages for short stories in the side bar menu. On re-reading, I think it needs editing. Here’s a link: https://writinginnorthnorfolk.com/the-bay-tree/
