Temple Bells and Butterflies

carried on a breeze
temple bells and butterflies
petals between graves

carried on a breeze
the scent of graveyard flowers
spattered by spring rain

temple bells and butterflies
quivering before they fade
last notes of a chime

petals between graves
potpourri of life and death
scattered by the wind

My response to Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #33 Troiku … Two White Butterflies

In this weekend’s meditation, our challenge is to create a ‘fusion haiku’ from two given haiku and then create a Troiku with our ‘fusion haiku’.

The two haiku from which to make our ‘fusion haiku’ are both by Matsuo Basho:

temple bells die out
the fragrant blossoms remain
a perfect evening

will we meet again
here at your flowering grave –
two white butterflies

  1. I’m impressed! I’m right there with the temple bells and butterflies…and the rain. Such lovely, lovely images! Thanks for this bright spot in my otherwise bleak day.
