from
a cloud
landing in
mud. Within
hours, shallow
streams meander
and bubble between
banks of flowers burning
above the flourishing flood.
It gushes on, a convulsive weir,
a torrent of energy trying to get
back to where it was. The heat
of the sun draws it up to a cloud
and it becomes once again
a new-born rain
drop.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Sanaa’s Challenge: Water Under the Bridge and linked to dVerse Poets Pub Open Link Night
Sanaa is our host this Thursday and she asks us to write about water. She has shared a music video by Adele and some quotations for inspiration. I love the Toni Morrison quote: ‘All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.’
Nice 👌

Woww!!❤️ I love how the shape of your poem resembles a raindrop 😀 and gosh the image of rain as “a torrent of energy trying to get back to where it was” is just so beautiful! Thank you so much for writing to the prompt, Kim ❤️

Builds strongly and rounds finely home. Our entire tidal rhythm in this droplet – what else is a poem?

I had to be very careful reading this in case the raindrop splashed over my keyboard! The life cycle of water in rain, clouds, rivers and seas is so wonderful and gives us life. I just wish we could respect it more rather than trash it. A really beautiful poem.

Thank you so much, Robin. I’ve been watching the news about plastic washing up on the Galapagos islands and it makes my blood boil.

I love the story of a raindrop… we have something of a drought here, so I wish for some rain to come.

I saw that on a BBC post, but here in NJ we’re expecting thunderstorms and rain all weekend with flash flood warnings.

The shape adds so much to this poem and i really like the ending, “a new born raindrop.”. Water is so transformational and your words express this.

Thank you, Toni. This morning is grey and misty, no rain, no wind, nothing’s stirring. There’s not even any birdsong and it’s almost seven. The sound of rain would be a comfort and it would clear the sky.
