At the end of the summer
Butterflies transform:
Commas pause and magically become
Dead leaves suspended from trees,
Eventually turning,
Falling into autumn.

I’m late to Lillian’s MTB this week due to internet problems and I’ve some catching up to do! Back to school and back to basics, the ABC and counting, all add up to this week’s prompt: an alphabet sestet. Lillian says that the sestet part is easy: one poem of six lines. She also says the alphabet part is easy: we have to choose a six-letter sequence in the alphabet, for example A-B-C-D-E-F or perhaps J-K-L-M-N-O and use those letters, in that sequence, as the first letters of the first words in each corresponding line!
Lovely – especially the commas becoming…

I just love the idea of commas compared to leaves falling or maybe that pausing breath before autumn begins. So beautiful, Kim!

a comma at the end of the alphabet – that is the teacher in you and the poet who wrote such a sensational sestet. I loved this!

Very clever. I really like the thought that autumn begins with a comma. Indeed, there is that pause (and the pause could last a few weeks) and then comes autumn in full bloom of red and orange.

This has such delightful little visuals – not just in the idea of leaves curled up like commas, but also in the suggestion of a bit of a pause between summer and winter, a space of an inhale and an exhale where we can feel the world shift into the next stage.
