Sending the Sun to Bed

The sky is vacant,
not a bird or a cloud in sight,
just an inkling of a crescent moon –
and then the sun tips
into the dark slot of night
in a fanfare of light
before drawing dramatic
drapes of purple and red
and sending the majestic
sun to bed.

Sunset the Sunday before Christmas

My response to Poets United Midweek Motif: Sunset

Sumana reminds us that sunset is a short-lived period: it begins in the evening and also ends there, creating a moment of pause, a time for stress release. It wipes out the cares of the day and assures a restful, calm night. She would like us to capture these fleeting golden moments in a poem. I’ve reworked an old poem with a couple of haiku I wrote a few years ago.
