Scrooged Again

It’s that time I fear,
when we are expected
to be of good cheer,
like a glass of mulled wine
or a pint of good beer,
to dance with the boss
at the company Christmas party
and regret it the rest of the year.

  1. Ghastly time of year particularly in the city of London. Or at least it was back in the early 1980s. Otherwise attractive Essex girls vomiting beside me on the underground. Office parties at which secretaries were pleased to photo copy parts of their anatomy. Awful client lunches and dinners. Gosh I feel almost nostalgic.

  2. A great title for a new book–DANCING WITH THE BOSS. Add to the list of sour notes, those Christmas guests, those relatives that make you cringe.

  3. This poem took me straight back to the Christmas parties of a company I used to work for. The president’s adult, married son would make a point to kiss every female employee on the cheek, it was like some strange rite of passage you had to endure while working there.
