How strange is the change
from those heavy gunmetal days
that fall in the cracks between
Christmas and New Year?
How sweet the shift of chord
from minor to major
as mornings become lighter
strewn with white and purple crocuses
and a blackbird’s song!

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille: Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
De is looking after the pub today with the word ‘change’, which makes me think of David Bowie’s song ‘Changes’ and the song by Ella Fitzgerald: ‘Every time we say goodbye’ – I love the lines:
‘There’s no love song finer
But how strange the change from major to minor
Every time we say goodbye.’
Beautiful, Kim. I love the change that comes from your choice of words here…from the weight of gunmetal to the feather-light of the word “strewn.” So well done.

Oh, lovely. And a great twist on the lyrics – good to be going from minor to major, for a change…

I just hope our early signs of spring aren’t thwarted by a late big chill like last year!

I, too, love those /heavy gunmetal days/. Your quadrille feels and reads like two tankas, as the twist catapults us toward Spring.

to insert the hope for light and song … to know the pulsing of green and life fresh and alive …. you’ve really captured the essence of both seasons and the transitional grey area – great quadrille Kim!

The return of the sun always changes the melody to a major key! Crocuses are the appetizer!

It happens every year, but the change from dark to light mornings is a lovely surprise – although I tend to get up earlier and get less sleep.

Our sunset has shifted to between 15.30 and 16.00. Today we have snow mixed with sunshine but the sky has just change from blue to grey – ominous!

Thank you for reposting this response to De’s prompt from a few years ago. I saw my first dVerse prompt was also on this subject in a different way. It’s obviously a theme that many are drawn to. 🙂
That shift in light like a shift from minor to major. So true. 💙
