The Point of Return

pristine pages of                 possibility
flutter out the window
into the                                sky
fragile words
on wings of air
hovering
ready to fall
                                              feathery
breaths of consonants
and vowels
eager to                                organise
themselves into meaning
lines and stanzas like birds
on a telephone                    wire
or notes on a stave
while the poet waits
                                              patiently
for their return

  1. lines and stanzas like birds
    on a telephone wire

I just love that, Kim, and the whole direction the poem takes, especially the words floating away at the ends of the lines.

  2. How lovely! The kind of thoughts you portray create this understanding of the creative process of writing. I loved the lines and stanzas as birds on a telephone wire. The flow, the format, the tone are all so well done. 🙂

  3. I will think of your poem when I see birds on wire. I like to think they can return, but perhaps they are meant to fly beyond our reach. Beautiful
