We walk into a landscape
where flowers light up verges,
they peep between the hedge gaps,
adorn churchyards and copses.
Where flowers light up verges,
the earth is not just greenscape,
throughout churchyards and copses
a spring colourwash escapes.
The earth is not just greenscape,
it glows with yellow urges;
the spring colourwash escapes
and purple haze emerges.
Glowing with yellow urges
that peep between the hedge gaps.
a purple haze emerges
on our walk into the landscape.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Meeting the Bar: Poetry – a Piece of Written Art, also linked to Poets United Poetry Pantry
Victoria is our host this Thursday and she reminds us that poetry is written art, in which the reader the imagery created through description or form and hears the repetition of sound through an array of poetic devices such as rhythm (meter, feet, stanzas…) and tone (consonance, assonance, dissonance…).
She also reminds us that currently, in the Pantoum, we are working with both structure and repetition, which she says are techniques much like pattern in visual art, and goes on to explain why and how to choose the lines or words to be repeated.
Victoria asks us those of us who have been struggling with the Pantoum, or who have given up on it completely, to hop back on the diving board and take a wild leap.
I love the colors of the spring landscape. This is my favorite part:
The earth is not just greenscape,
it glows with yellow urges;
the spring colourwash escapes
and purple haze emerges.

Spring continues to dominate our muses it seems. Nice sweet use of the form. Like Grace, you had me at /the spring colourwash escapes/.

Thanks Glenn. I like the way our garden starts with white snow drops, goes through yellow narcissi, brighter yellow daffodils, pink cherry blossom, various purple and blue flowers, and then multicoloured honeysuckle and wild roses start to take over before being completely swamped by greenery.

I’m sorry Kim, I read ‘adorn churchyard and corpses’. My own poem was a ghostly one and it’s rubbed off.

Well, technically speaking, the corpses are adorned too! 🙂

it was like a step by step tour and slowly pausing to savour words and scenes, no a thing went unnoticed, i like your structure here Kim, it enforces the beauty of the repeated lines.

A wonderful example of poem as visual art. What a cool idea that is. A skilful pantoum as well.

Beautiful imagery. For sure the earth is not just greenscape. It is beautiful to see the spring colorwash as it appears over the land…slowly but surely! Your poem and photo go together well.
