If I talk to the mouse
in the cupboard,
even through the crack
in the door,
the cats will be jealous,
the crumbs will be eaten,
and I’ll have to go out
for some more.
If I sing to the mouse
in the cupboard,
I might just scare
her away;
she’s great company,
in the middle of the night,
and inspiration at the start
of the day.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Poems in April Day 11 Song prompt: The News from Your Bed
Izy is our host on the eleventh day f April and she’s introduced me to a band I hadn’t heard of: Bishop Allen. The prompt is to write a poem using a phrase or line of lyrics from ‘The News from Your Bed’.
I’m still tired after the journey home and I have to go out this morning, so I’ve written a jaunty little nonsense poem.
Delightful!

I love this sweet poem. It brought back memories of an old farm house I once lived in. A tiny mouse was a daily visitor 💕

That’s so sweet! We don’t get many mice as they are scared of our cats. 😉

Cute poem, cute picture. Reminds me of the toy mouse out work that I kept with my computer mouse for company when I wasn’t there. Also reminds me of the rats in our day room that ran up and down the wall studs and braces while I slept during night watches.

Sounds like the cat is well-fed 🙂 (I had a mouse in the house once, called a rodent person as I couldn’t “capture” it … He saw I had three cats and just shook his head. (The mouse came to an ill-fated end, but not due to my cats!. Anyway, cute little sing-songy poem…
