‘The temple bell stops but I still hear the sound coming out of flowers.’ Matsuo Basho
Silence
drips
into the sodden
solitude
of a deep druidic wood,
goose-pimple chilled
and tangle wild.
All at once,
the path Is broken
by a sunny glade
scattered with spikes
of new nettle growth
and, ringing through the leafy light,
fronds of brash bluebells
and thrush-song
resound with joy in their tree temple.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Poems in April Day 18 Bits of Inspiration: Bell
Today Susie offers us a quote from Matsuo Basho and photos as inspiration.
The birds have been so loud this year. I think you riff beautifully on Basho’s phrase.

Tree temple. I love that. I like the alliteration in thus: tree temple, sodden solitude, brash bluebells. The sounds in thus bespeak birds. Lovely lovely poem.

I do love this walk into the sudden glade, and the nettles reminds me that we can make nettle soup if needed.

Spring brings it’s colorful entourage every year. As a child I quickly learned to beware “spikes
of new nettle growth” because their sting is nasty.
