Around the village green, May blossom turns hedges
into rich swags of cream, cow parsley frothing at the edges.
As I walk (or trudge) alone, birds and daisies cheer me on,
panting through the second lap, by the village hall, past
empty goalposts, along sidelines vanishing in rampant grass.
When someone asks how I keep fit during the corona season,
I say I walk about a mile around a football pitch, but mean
it’s more like twice or even thrice around the village green.

My response to Poets and Storytellers United Weekly Scribblings #19: Lie to Me
Rommy tells us that this week she was put into a position where she needed to tell a little white lie. For this Weekly Scribblings, she’d like us to focus our words around lies or the idea of a lie, whether they’re little ones or great big whoppers.
This poem is kind of tongue in cheek as I have managed four or five laps, albeit before I got shingles, and I’m building up to five or six again now.
Oh that lie is very white, hardly a lie at all – just a matter of perspective. 😀 And the poems is lovely.

No lie here, just a matter of perspective. (Good for you, by the way, for getting your daily exercise).

I was kicking butt with my home exercise routine, but a stomach illness has forced me to slow down. LOL, I could try lying about my week of inactivity, but alas, my pants know the truth!

So? Big deal! Every day, I walk out to the driveway’s end, check the mailbox, bring in the catalogs and bills. It’s AT LEAST a couple miles (heh, heh, heh)…

You can be using the football pitch isn’t a lie to me, it is a measurement a person can comprehend. And Kim, I didn’t know about the shingles, I’m sorry with you. My son had it seemingly forever, horrible experience, I’m glad you recovered. Mrs. Jim’s and my doctors independently on the same day gave each of us to walk 30 minutes five days a week. We have picked that up for COVID 19 staying in.

Any fitness regime is better than none, it is not a competition! (well…only with yourself).

I love this tale … not too tall in my view. I once told a ‘rival’ in the exercise department I ran eleven miles ~ she was duly impressed. In reality I had walked the eleven miles – fast.
