Tingle

Ice-cold loneliness numbed her
body and soul, shielded her heart,
with starry snowflakes. With her
eyes the colour of slush after snow,
embrangled in winter’s undertow,
her personal winter drifted into spring,
hoar frost still sparkled on everything
like a silver Midas touch, until she found
a crow, ebony black, stiff on the ground.
She lifted it gently, pressed it close
to her breast, the faint warmth of her
pale skin met the faint beat of its heart,
and the pulse became a tingle in her fingers,
proof that, though frozen, love always lingers.

My response to Poets and Storytellers United Weekly Scribblings #23: By Means of Music

Sanaa is back with a playlist compiled for the heart. Music is a means of inspiration for many of us, whether it’s classical, pop, folk, blues, rock or heavy metal, as it says in the quote from Victor Hugo: “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

For today’s challenge, Sanaa asks us to draw inspiration from a YouTube Playlist: we should pick a song and let our muses run free. Inspiration may come from the title, the lyrics or just the emotions that the song evokes. She asks us to do two things: mention our choices somewhere in our posts and remember to give credit.

It could only be Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ – I love the contrasts in the music and of course, Chester Bennington’s voice.

  8. I think of the times my heart was warmed into feeling again by the simple act of giving love to those that needed it. Love is magical that way.
