This mid-January morning
all the blemishes are covered
and soil scars have been stitched
by the dusty blackbird’s tracks.
Even the washing looks whiter,
not frozen stiff, but dancing, blown
by the wind that brought the snow.

A chilly little poem for earthweal open link weekend #53
It’s chilly, but preferable to the dull greys and murky browns which are often the colours of the UK in winter! I’m pleased the wind blew a little snow your way…

I love the image of the laundry dancing. It reminds me of my mom talking about how they hung wash out in the prairies in winter. It froze solid, then they brought it in and stood it around the house to thaw.

I’ve had my fair share of frozen washing, Sherry!

You have caught the magic of snow and your washing is calling to it.

I should have brought it in. It’s a devil to dry anything at the moment.

The radiator in our eldest sons room is stuck on full, so we dry our clothes in there. He is living in Reading with his girlfriend now.

Another poem about washing! I wonder what’s got into us all?
I love the idea of the blackbird tracks stitching the soil’s scars.

We’ve had a fair few birds hopping about in the snow today. Glad we filled the feeders during the week.😊

You have an Eskimo’s sense snow, observing how it whitens the wash that dances in snow-wind. Lovely. – Brendan

Thank you, Brendan. By yesterday afternoon all that was left were tiny traces of snow and a very large snowman on the football pitch. He may still be there, but it’s too dark to see.
