The Fencing in of Rainbows

The first Visual Verse image of the year by Michael Easterling was beautiful but tricky. My poem in January’s  Visual Verse is on page 33. As always, I recommend reading all the poems in the issue but, if you want to go straight to mine, it’s called ‘The Fencing in of Rainbows‘. You can also read the other poems by clicking on my name.

  1. Coruscate! What a great word! I like how you pick out all the colours and deal with them. It’s the kind of image that looks as though it ought to produce a lyrical poem so easily, but I found it produced something completely different.

      1. Thanks Kim. That’s how I understand the ekphrastic element. Kerfe and I were discussing it about responses to the Ekphrastic Review challenges which very often are based on the biography of the artist and not what the painting inspires. It certainly reduces the scope for variety.

  2. Many many hearty congratulations, Kim! 😀 This is truly a gorgeous poem. Especially love; “The yellow
is too radiant to mellow and the red so hot it could meld you to the spot.”💝💝

    1. Thank you so much, Sanaa. I’m racing through reading these comments before the electrician comes to fix the heating. He’s going to be here all day and the power will be switched off. I will have to read and comment on the OLN poems tomorrow. Thank you also for being such a great Live OLN host.

  3. Congrats KR. A marvelous work. I originally misread “and the red so hot
it could meld you to the spot.” as “Weld you to the spot.” Either way, it works
    Thanks for the share.

  4. Congratulations on your ekphrastic at Visual Verse. Love it, Kim. Don’t mess with the rainbows!

Also, thank you for reading the Hagstone poem today at the live dVerse. You (reading your poem) sounded as delightful as I knew you would ❤

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Lisa. It was too late last night to read and comment and this morning I’m racing through reading these comments before the electrician comes to fix the heating. He’s going to be here all day and the power will be switched off. I will have to read and comment on the OLN poems tomorrow.

      1. Kim, it’s taking a long time to get that heat working. Not good in the middle of winter! I hope you bundle up well while he’s working and get some wood burning in the inglenook. You are very welcome and it was my pleasure to hear you read.

    1. Thank you, Ingrid, that’s such a lovely comment. The electrician will be here soon to fix the heating. He’s going to be here all day and the power will be switched off, so I won’t be able to read and comment on the OLN poems until tomorrow morning. Something to look forward to.
