Seal Watching

A sleek swimmer

Following our wake

Suddenly turns

Dives below the swell

And wash of waves

Leads us to the spit

A colony of sea dogs

Expectant cows

And blubbery bulls

Basking in the weak sun

Of a cloudy August afternoon

Playful pups

Slip gracefully

In and out of waves

Echoes of magical

Mermaid’s call

Until they haul

Clumsy bodies

Over shale and sand

Beached on land
