I am currently putting together a portfolio of three to five poems for the 2015 Manchester Writing Competition. Two poems pretty much wrote themselves yesterday morning, which is the way I often develop ideas, letting the words and phrases form spontaneously before deliberation and polishing. The third poem was one I had started quite some time ago; it required effort as I was hoping to write a two stanza poem by reversing the line length and changing the words of the first stanza to create a kind of distorted mirror image. It hasn’t turned out quite as I imagined, and I might not enter it in the competition, so it could appear as a post. One of the rules of the competition is that entries must not have been published in print or on the Internet, so I can’t share them on WordPress. There is also a short story competition, for which I am developing an entry. So for a while, I shall restrict myself to daily haikus. I would love to win a competition after entering so many this year, so please cross your fingers for me.
