After reading Somali Chakrabarti’s tanka this morning, I thought I would have a go. I haven’t written one for a long while. Thank you, Somali, for reminding me of the tanka.
The tanka poem is similar to the haiku, but with more syllables and lines: 31 syllables in 5 lines, with 5 syllables in the first and third lines and 7 in the others. This form also makes use of simile, metaphor and personification.
Tanka in the Autumn Rain
Diluted by rain
The colours of the garden
Momentarily
Blur and merge into one green
Waiting for the autumn hue

That”s a lovely tanka Kim…colours merging into one green. So nice to know that my tanka inspired you to write this tanka. 🙂
