As I wandered in our garden…

I made a note of any colourful plants in all the green. This is one of the plants I found.

Hydrangea

Chameleon flower of water and moon

In autumn she antiques and turns to rust

Papery petals that crumble into dust

In spring she returns to glorious hue

Delicate mop-heads of pink, white and blue

Recumbent in the coolness of the semi-shade

Of an ornamental cherry and an apple tree

Hidden by unflinching nettles and watchful weeds

Each head of petals a beating heart

Courtesans of Japanese art

Hydrangeas
