The Theatre of Silence
The stage is empty and dusty
The hush so persistent
You could hear a pin drop
Unoccupied seats
Silent applause
A hole in the roof
For a spotlight of sun
Spiders weave
For a curtain call
That never comes

I’m reminded of a book I read as a little child… “The Thief Lord”by Cornelia Funke…
It suits so well.. your beautiful verse.

Hmm…will WeirdPress let me comment today? Reading back through your blog, I found this, and it reminded me of the “topless theatre” in my town! Someone felt so sorry for the old burnt-out theatre that he started to rebuild it, couldn’t afford a new roof, but advertised movies “under the stars,” before COVID. (The building was topless. The movies were always nostalgic and family-friendly!) He was old before COVID and didn’t live to be able to finish the theatre…but I sort of wish tourists would take an interest in the place and perhaps give it a retractable sunroof. Give his family something to do.

HI Priscilla, and thank you for commenting. I wish more people would adopt old theatres and cinemas and give them another chance.
