Yesterday I prepared the Chatterbooks session for next Saturday. Next week, on 8th October, is the 21st National Poetry Day and we will be discussing and writing poetry on the theme of light. One poem we will read and use as a poetry prompt is ‘A Jar of Honey’ by Jacob Polley. I had a go at this is myself and this is the result.
A Goldfish Bowl
Captured in a globe
Orange light flickers
On coruscating
Golden scales
I dip my hand
The glowing creature
Illuminates my finger
Emits the scent of whales
I carry the glow
Transfer it to the cats
Sitting on the mat
Grooming their tails
Underneath the running tap
Water falls
My little drop of sunlight
Swirls and fails
