National Poetry Day

What an amazing feeling to be listening to BBC Radio’s programme on National Poetry Day, with poems by Shakespeare, Seamus Heaney and the like, while writing and posting my own poetry.

I saw the word evanescent on obtuseangleeyebrows post ‘Word of the Day’ which prompted me to write this:

Evanescent

A poem forms within my soul

Unshaped at its conception

A word, a phrase, a stanza whole

A sensory perception

Intense and vivid at its birth

The spell it binds is broken

When evaluated for its worth

Written down or spoken

Poetic children are sublime

Ethereal like flowers

Some last beyond the realm of time

But others only hours.

Evanescent
