in the cold black earth
bones sleep for eternity
without blossoming
full to bursting with new life
bulbs await warm touch of spring

My response to Carpe Diem Tanka Splendor #24 Black Earth
In this episode, Chèvrefeuille has given us a bit of a strange prompt, ‘black earth’, with one of his own tanka as an example:
black earth
covered with fresh fallen snow
awaits spring
I lay down and rest a while
in front of the fireplace

Life and death join in this tanka in a deep and beautiful reflection.
