sunset’s afterglow
the echoing of footsteps
in a lonely heart

My response to Carpe Diem Crossroads #9 Ozaki Hosai’s “on the field”
In a new episode of Carpe Diem’s ‘fusion’ feature, the two haiku we are working with were written by the classic haiku poet, Ozaki Hosai, who embraced the free-haiku movement and wrote his haiku as one-line verses only, a classic way of writing haiku. Chèvrefeuille has ‘reformatted’ them in the more Western three lines:
on the field
where evening has died out,
my footsteps
the heart
that seeks something
I release to the sea

Your haiku really conveys those profound moods that can sometimes settle over the mind at dusk.

Sounds very sad … but a strong fusion.
