awake before dawn —
the creak of the wooden stairs
swollen with the heat

My response to Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #36 “like Basho”
This weekend’s meditation special feature is a new one called ‘Deep Within Self’, in which the goal is to create haiku, tanka or other Japanese poetry from the heart and capture our innermost feelings inspired by a given theme.
Chèvrefeuille reminds us of the idea of The Third Eye, which is said to see from the heart, soul and mind. Our theme for this weekend’s meditation is to seek deep within ourselves and try to write ‘like Basho’.
I love creaky old stairs

Very much like Basho … I read and re-read your haiku, and in a way I sense the presence of Basho, but also of Shiki.

here it’s more like ‘the creak of boards shrinking with the cold’…
