After a quiet but perfect day, my husband took me out for a birthday meal at a lovely restaurant in a small Norfolk village not too far from where we live. I mentioned it in a previous post, entitled ‘This morning looks brighter’. As we left, we were surprised by a glorious Norfolk sunset, which inspired this poem. The photo is one of many taken on the way home.
Norfolk Sundowner
The August sky is full of fire,
Illuminated,
Celebrated
With golden luminosity.
Our burning curiosity
Is aroused
By clouds
Backlit by sun and tinged with silver,
Resplendent,
Iridescent,
Blushing from the afterglow
Of summer’s heat.
Day admits defeat
And fades from sight,
Twilight tumbles into night.

pretty!
