Please don’t get the idea that I am depressed. I left with a poem about the weather conveying emotions; started today with a gloomy haiku; and then continued with another gloomy poem. The next one is less dark but not quite optimistic yet. I am exhausted from travelling but unable to sleep, so I’m a bit fuzzy this morning.
Chasing Poems
Poems inhabit my world,
Hiding in shadows,
Creeping in corners,
Under my bed
Where they keep me awake
Disturbing the darkness.
Multicoloured rainbows,
Infused with ideas,
Slip through my fingers –
I’m slurred with sleep,
Too slow to stuff them
In my pocket,
Trap them
In my memory,
Infuse them
In the ink of my pen;
Write them.

What a great way to express the feelings that I think artists in other genres must experience as well. Even as a research scientist with no artistic abilities or tendencies I experience similar things when ideas are swirling in my head.
