A poem taken from a lost memory

When the Party’s Over

The party is over

But the garden is alive

With candles flickering in jars

Red embers of a redundant barbecue

The glow of spent cigarettes

A security light

Brings day to night

Birthday balloons

Bob in the night breeze

Bunting bats

Flutter darkly in the trees

A black bin bag

Drifts across the lawn

Damp and moss

Creep up the wall

Where a cat watches languidly
