Klimt’s Medicine
Death
Is a skeleton,
A bony frame,
In the river of life.
…
The river of life
Is a mass of figures,
Male and female,
Nude.
…
Nude
Is the woman
Afloat in space,
Newborn life
At her feet.
…
At their feet,
Is Hygeia,
Snake coiled
Around her arm,
Cup of Lethe in her hand,
Glorious in scarlet and gold,
Turning her back on mankind.
