Archaeology on the Beach
I
poke
claggy
sand turn
pebbles feel
with probing
finger tips touch
sharpness of ancient
flint sharp and smooth
last held by a Stone Age
hand that knapped its edges
until they were dark and ribbed
I lift it from its earthy grave this tool
an arrowhead so simple yet unique
relinquished by a North Norfolk flint circle
