Blackbird Morning

This morning

There is a dissimulation

Of blackbirds in the garden

Stabbing at the frozen soil

With yellow beaks

Flashing promises of spring

As they flutter and descend

Flap and fall

In a rustle of desiccated leaves

Eyed by

A single magpie

From the green needles

Of the fir tree
