A Rural Sunday

With a reedy fanfare,

A whistle of wind

Across empty fields,

The sun appears

From murky cloud;

And the village church bell,

Clanging loud,

Beckons its straggle

Of parishioners

Up the muddy lane

And back again,

To Sunday grub

And the local pub.
