The Wheels of Time – a Rondel

My response to dVerse Poets Meeting the Bar; the Rondel, has turned into an eco poem, inspired by a photograph I took on the way to a local beach.

The wheels of time turn,

Leaving behind worn out tyres

To rot, moulder and expire

By a roadside or on a pile to burn.

When will the human race learn

To raise itself up from the mire?

The wheels of time turn,

Leaving behind worn out tyres.

Amongst the grass and fern,

Tangled in weeds and briars,

Belching toxic smoke from bonfires,

Polluting our world without concern,

The wheels of time turn.

  1. Its sad to see all these debris and waste in the roadside ~ I love the eco poem with the refraining line: The wheels of time turn. The ending puts a different twist to the “wheels of time” ~

  2. Excellent combination of rondel and eco poem. You paint this sad picture so very well. It disturbs me, when on a lovely walk in the wild or by the coast, to suddenly find discarded garbage….Mother Earth must shed her tears also.
    Very well done.
